Tabstop Audits

Frequently asked questions

About the audit

What standard do you test against?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level A and AA. On request we can report against WCAG 2.1 AA instead. WCAG 2.2 includes all of 2.1's AA criteria except 4.1.1 Parsing, which was removed.

Will an audit make my site compliant?

No audit can promise that, and we won't. An audit shows where your site stands against WCAG 2.2 AA today and how to improve it. Websites change all the time, and whether a site meets a law depends on facts and legal questions we can't answer. We test and explain; we don't certify.

Is this legal advice?

No. We're accessibility testers, not lawyers. If you have a legal question, including about a letter or complaint you've received, please talk to a qualified attorney. We're happy to share our report with them.

Why not just run a free scanner myself?

You should! Free tools like WAVE, axe DevTools, and Lighthouse are a great start. But scanners can only test some WCAG criteria. They can't tell whether your alt text makes sense, whether your menu works with a keyboard, or whether a screen reader user can finish your contact form. That's what the manual part of our audit covers.

Do you test with screen readers?

Yes. Our manual testing includes keyboard and screen reader checks, alongside automated scans. Each report lists the browser and assistive technology used.

Do you test on mobile?

We check that pages reflow at narrow widths and zoom levels. Full mobile screen reader testing can be added to a Full Audit; ask on the intake form.

Overlays and widgets

Do you sell or install accessibility overlay widgets?

No. Overlays add a toolbar or script on top of your site, but the underlying code that keyboards and screen readers rely on stays the same. Many disabled people and accessibility professionals have spoken out against them. We fix the code instead. More on why we don't use overlays.

I already have an overlay. Can you still audit my site?

Yes. We'll test the site as visitors experience it, note anywhere the overlay itself causes problems, and focus our fixes on the underlying pages.

Platforms, payment, and timing

What platforms do you work with?

We audit any public website. For Fix Sprints we work on WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, and static HTML. Some hosted platforms lock parts of the theme; if we can't fix something, we explain why and give you options.

How do I pay?

By card through Stripe, using the buttons on the pricing page. After paying, you'll come back to our intake form to tell us about your site. Not sure which package fits? Fill in the intake form first and we'll recommend one before you pay.

How long does it take?

Snapshot Audit: 3 business days. Full Audit: 7 business days. Fix Sprint: 5 business days after we get access. The clock starts once scope is confirmed and payment is received.

What do you do with my information?

We use it only to deliver your audit. See our privacy policy.
